PLA filament 1,75 mm is the most versatile material for FDM printing technology, suitable for printing large objects as well. Thanks to its easy properties, we recommend PLA to all beginners starting with 3D printing. Another big advantage is its 100% ecological biodegradability, as PLA is produced from renewable resources such as corn starch. PLA material is hard and durable, just like other plastics, but it is not a material suitable for outdoor use because in such cases it degrades and becomes brittle under UV light.

PLA Surface Treatment

The material is difficult to sand during sanding (friction) generates heat and this causes "pulling" of fibers from the print. Therefore, during manual sanding, it is recommended to cool the print, for example by sanding underwater. For the same reason, it is also difficult to drill holes in the print (again, heating problem). It is advisable to first spray the material with filler (putty used in modeling) and then sand and repaint and again and again - until the material is completely smooth and finally spray with paint.

Superglue with an activator spray (sometimes superglue alone may be enough).

Recommended Settings for PLA Printing

Commonly used nozzles are suitable. You can choose diameters according to the surface fineness you want to achieve or according to the layer thickness settings during printing. Printing temperature: 210 °C. PLA filament requires a heated bed but for better material adhesion it is recommended to heat it up to 55 °C. Furthermore, for printing PLA filament, we do not recommend covering the printer in an enclosure, or leave it open. For a quality print surface, the plastic needs to be cooled as quickly as possible behind the nozzle. We therefore recommend setting the plastic cooling fan on the printer to 100%.

The printing string is supplied vacuum-packed together with a moisture absorber and placed in a cardboard box. The plastic spools on which the filament is wound may differ in embossing or color. We try to maintain 100% repeatability of the winding and spool color.
