PLA filament 1,75 mm is the most universal material for FDM printing technology, also suitable for printing large objects. Thanks to its simple properties, we recommend PLA to all beginners who are starting with 3D printing. Another great advantage is 100% ecological biodegradability, as PLA is produced from renewable resources such as corn starch. PLA material is hard and durable, like other plastics, however, it is not a material suitable for outdoor use because in such cases it degrades and becomes brittle under UV light.

Surface Treatment of PLA

The material is difficult to sand; during sanding (by friction), heat is generated, which causes "pulling" of fibers from the print. Therefore, it is recommended to cool the print during manual sanding, for example by sanding under water. For the same reason, it is also difficult to drill holes in the print (again, heating problem). It is advisable to first spray the object with filler (putty used in modeling) and then sand and repaint and again and again - until the surface is completely smooth and finally spray with paint.

Superglue with a spray activator (sometimes superglue alone may be enough).

Recommended Settings for Printing PLA

Commonly used nozzles are suitable. You can choose diameters according to the surface fineness you want to achieve or according to the layer thickness settings during printing. Printing temperature: 210 °C. PLA filament requires a heated bed, but for better material adhesion, it is recommended to heat it up to 55 °C. Furthermore, we do not recommend covering the printer in an enclosure for printing PLA filament, or if so, leave it open. For a high-quality print surface, it is necessary to cool the plastic behind the nozzle as quickly as possible. We therefore recommend setting the plastic cooling fan on the printer to 100%.

We supply the printing filament vacuum-packed along with a moisture absorber and placed in a cardboard box. The plastic spools on which the filament is wound may differ in molding or color. We strive to maintain 100% repeatability of the winding and spool color.
