    Product description

Prusament PETG Tungsten 75% 1 kg (NFC) is a top-tier technical filament developed by Prusa specifically for applications where effective shielding of ionizing radiation is necessary alongside the possibility of rapid part production on FDM/FFF 3D printers.

The base consists of high-quality PETG modified with a 75% proportion of tungsten powder (by weight). Tungsten (W) is an extremely dense metal (approx. 19 g/cm³), approximately 1.7× denser than lead, and is therefore ideal for X-ray and gamma radiation shielding. The combination of PETG + tungsten provides a non-reactive, hypoallergenic, and non-toxic material suitable for a range of medical and radiological applications.

Due to the very high density of the filament, you will achieve the required shielding effect in a relatively small volume of the printed part. At the same time, the material retains the typical advantages of PETG – good chemical resistance, low odor during printing, low warping, and easy post-processing.

This version includes an NFC chip integrated into the spool, which allows compatible Original Prusa printers to automatically load material information.

    Main features and benefits

    • 75% tungsten powder in PETG matrix – extremely high density, ideal for radiation shielding
    • Excellent shielding properties for X-ray and gamma radiation
    • Non-reactive, hypoallergenic, and non-toxic material – suitable for medical environments
    • Good chemical resistance – suitable for radiopharmaceuticals and other more aggressive environments
    • Low susceptibility to warping – stable printing even for larger parts
    • Weak odor during printing – more comfortable operation in laboratories and workplaces
    • Easy machining and sanding – very good post-processing, possibility of achieving a smooth surface
    • High abrasivity – necessity of using a hardened steel or other durable nozzle (NOT brass)
    • Fast printing – the filament allows for higher speeds than common technical materials with comparable density
    • NFC spool – automatic material identification on supported Original Prusa printers

    Recommended use

This filament is intended primarily for professional and industrial use:

    • Shielding of radiopharmaceuticals (in holders, containers, and transport capsules)
    • Testing and validation fixtures for X-ray and diagnostic radiological equipment
    • Collimators for gamma cameras and other diagnostic devices
    • Individually designed shielding covers and masks according to specific applications
    • Special industrial and research applications, where the combination of high density, non-reactivity, and precise shape is essential

Notice: This filament is highly specialized and is not intended for hobby decorations – its purpose is primarily functional radiation shielding and related technical parts.

    Printing recommendations

To achieve optimal properties and printer longevity, observe the following principles:

    Suitable nozzle

    • Always use a hardened, tempered, or otherwise highly durable nozzle (e.g., hardened steel, tungsten carbide, etc.)
    • Tungsten powder is very abrasive and will wear out a brass nozzle quickly

    Temperature settings (guideline)

    • Nozzle temperature: typically within the range of common values for PETG (guided by manufacturer recommendations and Prusament PETG Tungsten profile)
    • Heatbed temperature: same as standard PETG (usually 70–90 °C depending on surface and printer)

    Print bed

    • Best results: satin and textured PEI sheet (in line with recommendations for classic PETG)
    • Smooth PEI sheet must be used with a separation layer (e.g., glue stick) to avoid surface damage

    Cooling and printer settings

    • Part cooling is generally rather limited (similar to PETG, sometimes even less)
    • It is recommended to use official or verified Prusament PETG Tungsten 75% print profiles for compatible printers
    • Before key jobs, it is advisable to print and evaluate a calibration object (e.g., test block for checking dimensions and infill homogeneity)

    Safety and print quality

    • Regularly check the nozzle condition – excessive wear can deteriorate print homogeneity and thus its shielding properties
    • Keep in mind that any printing errors (underextrusion, voids, poor layer bonding) can significantly reduce shielding effectiveness

    Technical parameters

    • Material: PETG (PETG copolymer) filled with tungsten powder
    • Filler: tungsten powder 75% by weight
    • Filament diameter: 1.75 mm (tolerance ±0.03 mm)
    • Spool weight: 1 kg net filament (without spool)
    • Heat Resistance (HDT): approx. 94 °C
    • Printing difficulty: low (similar to standard PETG, with emphasis on abrasivity)
    • Abrasivity: high
    • Odor during printing: weak
    • Susceptibility to warping: low
    • Post-processing: easy (dry and wet sanding, possibility of surface polishing)
    • Elasticity: practically none (material is rigid)
    • Possibility to polish surface: yes
    • Compatibility: all common FDM/FFF 3D printers capable of printing PETG and equipped with a durable nozzle (especially Original Prusa printers recommended)
    • NFC: integrated NFC chip in the spool (for compatible Original Prusa printers)

Who is Prusament PETG Tungsten 75% suitable for

    • Hospitals, clinics, and radiological departments – in-house production of custom shielding covers, collimators, and fixtures
    • Research institutes and universities – experimental shielding structures, test phantom parts, measurement equipment holders
    • Industrial plants – custom production of parts for shielding radiation sources in NDT, industrial radiography, etc.
