PLA filament 1,75 mm is the most versatile material for FDM printing technology, suitable even for printing large objects. Due to its easy-to-use properties, we recommend PLA to all beginners starting with 3D printing. Another great advantage is its 100% ecological biodegradability, as PLA is made from renewable resources such as corn starch. PLA material is hard and durable, like other plastics, but it is not a material suitable for outdoor use because it degrades and becomes brittle under UV light.

Surface Treatment of PLA

The material is difficult to sand; during sanding (friction), heat is generated, which causes "pulling" of fibers from the print. Therefore, manual sanding is recommended to be done with cooling, for example, sanding under water. For the same reason, it is also difficult to drill holes in the print (again, heating issues). It is advisable to first spray the material with a filler (putty used in modeling) and then sand and paint over and over again - until the surface is completely smooth, and finally spray with color.

Superglue with an activator spray (sometimes superglue alone may be enough).

Recommended Settings for Printing PLA

Commonly used nozzles are suitable. You can choose diameters according to the surface fineness you want to achieve or according to the layer thickness settings during printing. Printing temperature: 210 °C. PLA filament requires a heated bed, but for better material adhesion, it is recommended to heat it up to 55 °C. Furthermore, we do not recommend covering the printer in an enclosure for printing PLA filament, or keep it open. For a high-quality print surface, it is necessary to cool the plastic behind the nozzle as quickly as possible. We therefore recommend setting the plastic cooling fan on the printer to 100%.

We supply the printing string vacuum-packed along with a moisture absorber and placed in a cardboard box. The plastic spools on which the filament is wound may vary in embossing or color. We strive to maintain 100% repeatability of the winding and spool color.
