Original Bambu Lab desiccant for AMS – SAA029 is specially designed for the automatic filament feeders Bambu Lab AMS, AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT. The color-changing silicone-based desiccant effectively reduces air humidity in the enclosed AMS chamber, preventing water absorption into the filament and ensuring stable and high-quality 3D printing. Each bag contains color-indicating granules that change color once saturated with moisture, so you can easily recognize when the desiccant needs to be replaced or regenerated.

Important: The desiccant bags must be removed from the outer transparent plastic wrapper before use and only then inserted into the AMS.

Why use desiccant in the AMS

When storing filament in an environment with increased humidity, the following can occur:

• water absorption into the filament,
• increased stringing and bubbles during printing,
• worse surface appearance and lower strength of the print,
• problems especially with hygroscopic materials (e.g. PA, PA-CF, TPU, PETG, PVA).

Bambu Lab desiccant SAA029 maintains low relative humidity in the AMS, which significantly extends filament lifetime and increases repeatability of print results, especially during long-term spool storage in the AMS.

Use and maintenance

1. Removing from the packaging
   • Open the outer transparent plastic bag.
   • Do not remove the desiccant bags from their own (perforated) fabric pouches – these are intended for operation in the AMS.
2. Inserting into the AMS
   • Place the bags into the dedicated slots / holders at the back of the AMS (depending on the type of AMS unit).
   • Make sure the bags do not obstruct free rotation of the spools or movement of the mechanics.
3. Condition check
   • Regularly (approx. every 2 weeks or according to ambient humidity) visually check the color of the granules.
   • Once most of the filling is clearly changed (darker, yellow/purple), the desiccant is saturated and should be replaced or dried.
4. Regeneration (optional)
   • According to the manufacturer's recommendation, the desiccant can be gently dried in a dryer / oven at a low temperature or in a suitable desiccant-drying device.
   • After regeneration, allow the bags to cool down and insert them back into the AMS.
