    Step 1: Preparation Before Printing

    (1) Filament Preparation
Select TPU with the appropriate hardness.
    Various levels of TPU hardness are available in the industry. Listed in descending order of hardness, they are as follows: 77D > 70D > 55D > 95A > 85A > 83A > 80A > 75A > 70A.
TPU with hardnesses of 95A, 85A, 83A, and 80A is moderately hard and can be printed on Bambu printers (higher hardness levels have a lower risk of print failure).
On the other hand, TPU with a hardness of 75A, 70A, or lower should not be printed on Bambu printers. These softer TPUs are prone to deformation by the extruder, which can cause clogging problems.

Dry the filament. Use an air dryer (recommended) or Bambu X1, X1C printers to dry the filament and prevent moisture-related issues such as excessive stringing or material oozing from printed models. The table below contains the recommended drying parameters:

    Useful Notes:

    (1) Using a Filament Dryer
If you use a filament dryer, it is recommended to use a forced-air dryer with sufficient capacity. Make sure that the filament spool is as far away from the heating zone as possible to ensure even temperature distribution and prevent deformation or damage to the spool and filament caused by local overheating.

    (2) Drying Filament in X1 or X1C Printers
When drying filament using X1 or X1C printers, the filament spool must be covered with the original packaging box or a custom-printed PC box. Throughout the drying process, make sure to firmly close the top lid and front door to maintain a higher temperature inside the chamber. It is also recommended to rotate the spool during drying to ensure thorough drying of the filament.

    (3) For specific TPUs (77D and 55D) that can be printed with AMS
Place the dried filament in the AMS and insert fresh desiccant. Finally, lock the AMS to prevent the filament from absorbing moisture during printing.

For TPU filaments that cannot be printed with AMS, place the dried filament in a sealed box with a roller axle and insert fresh desiccant. Then lock the box to prevent the filament from absorbing moisture during printing. The roller axle helps reduce feeding resistance and prevents abnormal feeding caused by excessive resistance. The file, style, and installation method of the roller after placing the filament are as follows:

The filament is enclosed in a 4L sealed box:

    Adhesives:

    • Compatible: Glue stick, liquid glue

    Step 2: Parameter Settings

    (1) Print Parameter Settings
For Bambu TPU, it is recommended to use a 0.4 mm nozzle and the corresponding Bambu TPU preset. For third-party TPU, it is recommended to use a 0.4 mm nozzle and select the Generic TPU preset with a lower maximum volumetric speed (printing speed). If the third-party TPU has a hardness of 95A or higher and/or is specified as high-speed TPU, you may consider using the Bambu TPU preset and slightly increasing the “maximum volumetric speed” based on this.

Please note that TPU is prone to feeding problems or clogging at higher printing speeds. If you are unsure whether TPU can be printed at high speeds, it is recommended to use a lower printing speed whenever possible.

    (2) Model Layout
TPU tends to string. Therefore, it is important to minimize excessive nozzle travel. This means that you should avoid placing multiple models on the plate and printing by layers. Instead, it is better to select a plate, place only one or several models on it, and print them individually.

Step 3: Post-Processing After Printing Is Complete

    (1) Removing Models from the Print Plate
In general, TPU adheres strongly to the print plate, which can make it difficult to remove models with a large base. In such cases, avoid using excessive force to prevent damage to the model or print plate. Instead, gently lift one corner of the model to create a gap, and spray alcohol into the gap. You can then carefully remove the model from the print plate.

    (2) Removing Stringing from Models
Drying TPU filament before printing will reduce the amount of stringing in the print, but will not eliminate it completely, especially in models with extensive nozzle travel. To remove stringing from the model, you can use hot air from a hair dryer or use a lighter flame to quickly burn away the stringing. However, be careful not to injure yourself or damage the model.
