Prusament PETG Magnetite 40% Grey is a special filled filament with approximately 40% magnetite content, which provides paramagnetic properties and high material density. Ideal for electronic components, sensors, parts attracted by magnets, shielding, or design and art projects where higher weight or interaction with a magnetic field is required. The filament requires a hardened nozzle due to the high abrasiveness of the filler.

    Product Description

Prusament PETG Magnetite 40% Grey 1kg is a technical filament developed by Prusa Research. It is a PETG filled with fine magnetite powder (~40%), which gives the material paramagnetic properties, significantly higher density, and an attractive matte grey surface.

Unlike standard PETG, this material is heavier, more abrasive, and behaves differently in a magnetic field. It is great for various electronic applications, functional prototypes, and mechanical parts that are meant to be attracted by magnets or need additional weight.

Note: The material is paramagnetic – it cannot be converted into a permanent magnet under domestic conditions.

    Main Advantages

    • Paramagnetic material – printed parts can be easily attached to magnets.
    • High density and weight – suitable where a heavier part is desirable (weights, stabilizers, stands, etc.).
    • Attractive matte grey surface – professional appearance, ideal for visible and design parts.
    • Good dimensional accuracy and Prusament quality – tight diameter tolerances, uniform color and filling.
    • High temperature resistance of PETG – suitable for functional prototypes and parts with higher thermal stress than PLA.

    Limitations and Recommendations

    • Requires a hardened nozzle – magnetite filler is highly abrasive and quickly wears out standard brass nozzles.
    • Lower interlayer adhesion than pure PETG – higher nozzle temperature and careful print settings are recommended.
    • Cannot be magnetized as a permanent magnet – used for interaction with magnets, not as a replacement for them.

    Typical Use

    • Electronic components and sensors Switch bodies, potentiometers, induction loops, transformers, sensors, electromagnetic shielding elements.
    • Parts attracted by magnets Covers, lids, tools, and fixtures meant to be easily attached to magnetic panels, holders, or work surfaces.
    • Magnetic boxes and storage systems Lids, partitions, or entire boxes fixed using magnets.
    • Art, design, toys Components for magnetic levitation, puzzles, parts with an "anti-gravity" effect, unconventional decorations.
    • Weights and stabilization elements Stands, bases, camera holders, light fixtures, or measuring instruments where higher weight in a compact volume is an advantage.

    Recommended Print Parameters

Specific values may vary by printer and conditions; use these as default settings.

    • Base material: PETG filled with magnetite (~40%)
    • Nozzle temperature: approx. 270 ± 5 °C
    • Bed temperature: approx. 100 ± 10 °C
    • Recommended bed surface: textured or satin PEI sheet
    • Enclosure: not required
    • Print speed: medium to higher (according to printer capabilities)
    • Part cooling: mild, according to PETG profile

Important: Use a hardened (steel) or otherwise hardened nozzle to prevent rapid wear.

    Tips for Successful Printing

    1. Print Surface Preparation
      • PETG has high adhesion – a cleaned PEI surface can stick too much.
      • It is recommended to use a release layer (e.g., glue stick or window cleaner on a cold plate) to avoid damaging the PEI.
    2. First Layer Calibration
      • The higher density of the filament means it is advisable to slightly adjust the Z-offset and verify that the first layer is well pressed but not "over-squished".
    3. Temperature Settings
      • For better layer adhesion, keep the nozzle temperature closer to the upper limit of the recommended range.
    4. Post-processing
      • The material can be sanded (dry and wet sanding).
      • For the final appearance, we recommend gradually refining the abrasive grit.
