Prusament PETG Magnetite 40% Grey is a special composite PETG filament filled with 40 % magnetite. Thanks to this, it has paramagnetic properties and is ideal for producing electronic components (sensors, switches, coils, shielding), tools attachable by magnet, functional prototypes, and design objects. New NFC spools with the OpenPrintTag open standard allow automatic material recognition by compatible printers. A hardened steel nozzle is required for printing, as the filler is significantly abrasive.

Prusament PETG Magnetite 40% Grey 1kg (NFC)

Prusament PETG Magnetite 40% Grey is a premium composite PETG filament developed and manufactured in-house by Prusa Research. The filament is filled with 40 % magnetite powder, giving it paramagnetic properties and higher density. It is intended for advanced functional prints, especially where there is a need to react to magnetic fields or utilize the possibility of attachment to magnets.

    Main advantages and applications

    • Paramagnetic material – reacts to strong magnetic fields, suitable for various electronic and mechatronic applications.
    • Ideal for electronics – switches, potentiometers, induction loops, sensors, electromagnetic shielding, and other functional parts.
    • Practical tools – tool holders and jigs that can be attached to a magnet on a wall, in a workshop, or on a machine.
    • High density – suitable for weights, counterweights and parts where higher mass is desired at a small volume.
    • Design, art, and toys – interesting grey shade "Magnetite Grey" with a technical look, suitable for design elements, puzzles, and mechanical toys.
    • Precise Prusament manufacturing – guaranteed tolerance of ±0,03 mm and top consistency of diameter and color throughout the spool.
    • NFC / OpenPrintTag – on the new spool is a rewritable NFC tag in the OpenPrintTag standard; compatible printers can recognize the spool and automatically load material parameters.

Note: The filament has paramagnetic, not permanently magnetic properties. It cannot be "magnetized" at home to behave like a classic magnet – this would require a very strong magnetizing device.

    Recommended print settings

For reliable printing, the following basic settings are recommended:

    • Nozzle temperature: approx. 270 ± 5 °C
    • Bed temperature: approx. 100 ± 10 °C
    • Recommended print sheet: textured or satin spring steel sheet
    • Printer type: standard FDM/FFF 3D printers with a hardened steel or other durable nozzle

Before printing, it is advisable to prepare the bed surface according to the manufacturer's recommendations (degreasing, or a separation layer for specific types of sheets).

    Important printing tips

    • Hardened nozzle is a necessity – magnetite filler is very abrasive and would significantly wear down a brass nozzle. Use a hardened steel, toughened, or ruby or other durable nozzle.
    • Print speed should be medium; it is a filled material that appreciates a more stable flow and quality cooling.
    • Storage: like other PETG – keep dry, ideally in a resealable container with silica gel. For long-term consistent results, the filament can be gently dried according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
    • NFC tag: The NFC chip on the spool contains information about the material (type, color, production batch, etc.) and can be read in compatible printers or the Prusa app.

    Material properties

    • Material type: PETG composite filament filled with magnetite (approx. 40 % by weight)
    • Color: Magnetite 40% Grey
    • Filament diameter: 1,75 mm (manufacturer guaranteed tolerance ±0,03 mm)
    • Density: higher than standard PETG due to high magnetite content (suitable for weights and balancing)
    • Mechanical properties:
      • High stiffness and strength due to hard filler
      • Lower flexibility than standard PETG
      • Suitable for functional parts and mechanical components
    • Thermal resistance: comparable to technical PETG, suitable for normally stressed parts in interiors and workshops

    Typical applications

    • Electronic and electromechanical components
    • Holders and jigs attachable by magnet
    • Weights and counterweights (e.g., in models, mechanisms, balancing of arms and slides)
    • Covers and parts with a need for partial shielding
    • Design parts, decorations, models, and toys with a technical look

    Packaging and Prusament quality

Every spool of Prusament PETG Magnetite 40% Grey is:

    • Carefully wound and inspected along its entire length
    • Production tracked – every batch has its history of measurement and inspection
    • Manufactured in Prusa Research's own filament plant in the Czech Republic

Thanks to this, you can count on maximum reliability during printing, predictable behavior, and minimum problems with nozzle clogging or flow fluctuations.

Who is this filament suitable for

    • Advanced users and professionals who need functional and experimental parts with paramagnetic properties.
    • Electronics and sensor developers who want to quickly prototype parts reacting to magnetic fields.
    • Technicians, hobbyists, and production workshops where the possibility of attaching printed parts to magnets (tool holders, manuals, templates…) is useful.
    • Creative creators and designers looking for an unconventional material with high density and technical aesthetics.

    Key properties:

    • Premium Prusament PETG filament filled with approx. 40 % magnetite with paramagnetic properties
    • Suitable for electronic components, sensors, induction loops, shielding, and tools attachable by magnet
    • Higher material density – ideal for manufacturing weights and parts where higher mass is needed
    • Manufacturing diameter tolerance of only ±0,03 mm for very reliable printing
    • New NFC spool with OpenPrintTag standard – the printer can identify the spool and load material data
    • Necessity of using a hardened or other durable nozzle due to significant abrasiveness of the filler
    • Recommended print settings: nozzle approx. 270 °C, bed approx. 100 °C, textured or satin sheet
    • Ideal for advanced users, electronics developers, prototyping, and functional technical parts
