PLA filament 1,75 mm is the most universal material for FDM printing technology, suitable even for printing large objects. Due to its simple properties, we recommend PLA to all beginners who are starting with 3D printing. Another big advantage is its 100% ecological degradability, as PLA is made from renewable resources such as corn starch. PLA material is hard and durable, like other plastics, but it is not a material suitable for outdoor use because in such cases it degrades and becomes brittle under UV light.

Surface treatment of PLA

The material is difficult to sand; during sanding (friction), heat is generated, which causes "pulling" of fibers from the print. Therefore, during manual sanding, it is recommended to cool the print, for example by sanding under water. For the same reason, it is also difficult to drill holes in the print (again, a problem with heating). It is suitable to first spray the material with filler (putty used in modeling) and then sand and repaint over and over - until the material is completely smooth, and finally spray with color.

Gluing PLA

Cyanoacrylate glue (superglue) with an activator spray (sometimes superglue alone may be enough).

Recommended settings for PLA printing

Commonly used nozzles are suitable. You can choose diameters according to the surface fineness you want to achieve or according to the layer thickness settings during printing. Printing temperature: 210 °C. PLA filament requires a heated bed, but for better material adhesion, it is recommended to heat it up to 55 °C. Furthermore, for printing PLA filament, we do not recommend covering the printer in an enclosure, or keeping it open. For a high-quality print surface, it is necessary to cool the plastic behind the nozzle as quickly as possible. We therefore recommend setting the plastic cooling fan on the printer to 100%.

We deliver the filament vacuum-packed along with a moisture absorber and placed in a cardboard box. The plastic spools on which the filament is wound may vary in embossing or color. We strive to maintain 100% repeatability of the winding and spool color.
