Summer is an ideal time for 3D printing. Not because a printer enjoys thirty-degree heat, but because at home, in the garden, by the pool, or on holiday, you quickly discover how many small things could work better. A drink holder, towel clip, pill box, caravan hook, or replacement plastic latch often solves more than another decoration for the shelf.
With summer prints, however, choosing the right material is important. PLA is sufficient for items used indoors, in the shade, or for short-term use. PETG is a better choice for moisture, the garden, balcony, pool, and parts that will bend or be subjected to loads. ASA is suitable where a part will remain in the sun for a long time, in a car, on a facade, by a grill, or outdoors for weeks at a time.
Below you will find ten practical models that make sense for the Czech summer of 2026, plus recommendations on when to print with PLA and when it is better to use PETG or ASA.
Beware of cars: even an ordinary PLA holder can deform behind a windshield or in a trunk on a hot day. If a model will travel in a car, consider PETG the minimum and ASA the safer option.
A holder for a can, cup, or bottle is one of the most rewarding summer prints. It is useful on a garden chair, lounger, pool handrail, camping table, or stroller. The best models have a large support surface, a drainage hole, and rounded edges so they do not scratch plastic or painted metal.
Material: PETG for regular outdoor use, ASA for permanent placement in the sun. Use PLA only for a holder that stays indoors, on a shaded terrace, or will be used for a short time.
Printing tip: use 4 perimeters and 20-30% infill. For holders with a clip, it is better to print more slowly so the layers hold well in the ing area.
A small hideable container for keys, cash, a card, or a phone is especially practical on beaches and at swimming pools. It is not a real safe, but an inconspicuous box that you can hide under a towel or in the sand. A screw-on lid, coarser thread, and space for a seal make sense.
Material: PETG is a good starting point because it handles moisture and mechanical stress better. Choose ASA if the box will often lie in direct sunlight. PLA is suitable only for dry testing.
Printing tip: for better protection against sand, print the lid and body with higher precision and screw the thread together several times after printing. If the model is designed for a ible seal, print it from TPU.

Printing tip: a hook should not be loaded in a direction where the layers can easily peel apart. If it needs to carry a heavier bag, increase the arm cross-section and use at least 4-5 perimeters.

Material: PLA is completely sufficient if you carry the organizers in a backpack or suitcase. Use PETG if the part bends or snaps repeatedly.
Printing tip: reduce the speed for small clips and check the cooling. An overly brittle detail often means it is better to add one perimeter than to increase the infill.

Printing tip: increase the number of perimeters for parts near water and avoid cavities where water could remain. If the part needs to hold a hose, round the edges so they do not cut into the hose material.
3D printing is useful for molds and kitchen accessories, but be careful with food. Ordinary FDM printing has layers and pores where dirt can accumulate. It is safer to print a mold for silicone, a cutter for brief contact, or an accessory that does not directly touch food.
Material: PLA is sufficient for a mold prototype, template, or holder. PETG is more suitable for washable kitchen accessories without prolonged direct contact with food. For direct food contact, use only a material and process whose safety you have verified.
Printing tip: do not use an old nozzle full of residue from technical materials for kitchen accessories. If you are unsure, print a tool for making a silicone mold instead.
The most practical summer print is often not a beautiful model from a catalog, but a repair for a specific item: a blanking plug, washer, knob, chair leg cap, spacer, shower holder, hose adapter, or box latch. Before a holiday, it is worth checking your car, camping equipment, garden furniture, and suitcases and printing small replacement parts before missing plastic ruins the day.
Material: PLA only for unstressed and temporary repairs. PETG for most functional repairs. ASA for outdoor parts, components exposed to sunlight, and elements that will be in a car.
Printing tip: for repairs, measure with calipers and make one quick prototype with low infill. Only once the dimensions fit should you print the final piece from a more durable material.
For functional summer prints, layer direction and the number of perimeters usually matter more than high infill. For holders, hooks, and clips, start with 4 perimeters, 20-35% infill, and reasonably thick top and bottom layers. For parts used in water, check that they do not have open cavities. For parts exposed to sunlight, choose lighter colors because dark plastic heats up faster.
PLA is still excellent for quick and inexpensive prints, but summer exposes its weaknesses. PETG is the best universal material for most home summer accessories. ASA makes sense where you do not want to deal with a warped, faded, or embrittled part after two weeks.
If you want a quick result before the weekend, start with a set of three things: a PETG drink holder, several PETG towel clips, and a PLA travel box. They take little time, make it easy to see whether the dimensions work, and can be used immediately at home, in the garden, or on holiday.
For longer-term outdoor equipment, a set of hooks, pool holders, and repair parts made from ASA or PETG makes the most sense. These small components often determine whether your equipment works all summer without improvisation.
